Affiliate Disclosure

What This Means for You
Some of the links on Detour Kids are affiliate links. This means that if you click on a link and make a purchase, we may receive a small commission at no additional cost to you. This commission helps us keep the site running, produce new city guides, and continue offering free family travel content.
Our Affiliate Partners
We participate in affiliate programs with the following companies:
- Amazon Associates — We link to family travel products, books, gear, and essentials on Amazon. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.
- Booking.com — We link to family-friendly hotels and accommodations. We may earn a commission when you book through our links.
- Viator — We link to tours, activities, and experiences in our city guides. We may earn a commission when you book through our links.
Our Promise
Affiliate relationships never influence our recommendations. Every city guide, activity suggestion, and hotel pick on Detour Kids is based on research and a genuine belief that it will be helpful to families traveling with young children. We only recommend products and services we believe in.
If we ever receive a free product or sponsored placement, we will clearly disclose that in the relevant content. As of this writing, all recommendations on the site are independently researched and not sponsored.
How Affiliate Links Work
When you click an affiliate link on Detour Kids, a small tracking cookie is placed on your browser by the affiliate partner. This cookie typically lasts 24 hours for Amazon Associates and up to 30 days for Booking.com and Viator. If you make a purchase within that window, Detour Kids receives a small percentage of the sale as a commission. The price you pay remains exactly the same whether you use our link or navigate to the site directly — there is no markup or additional charge for using our affiliate links.
Affiliate commissions vary by partner and product category. Amazon Associates commissions typically range from 1% to 10% of the purchase price depending on the product category. Booking.com commissions are based on the value of completed hotel stays. Viator commissions are a percentage of the tour or activity booking price. These commissions are our primary source of revenue and are what allow us to continue producing free family travel content.
Google AdSense and Advertising
In addition to affiliate links, Detour Kids displays advertisements through Google AdSense. These ads are served by Google and its advertising partners and may be personalized based on your browsing history and interests. Ad revenue, along with affiliate commissions, helps us cover the costs of hosting, research, and content creation. We do not have direct control over which specific ads are displayed on the site, but we have configured our AdSense settings to block ad categories that are not appropriate for a family-oriented audience.
For more information about how Google uses your data for advertising, and how to opt out of personalized ads, please refer to our Privacy Policy and visit Google's Ads Settings.
How We Choose What to Recommend
Every recommendation on Detour Kids goes through the same editorial process regardless of whether an affiliate link is available. Our content team researches each city guide by reviewing official tourism websites, reading recent visitor reviews, consulting travel forums, and drawing on firsthand family travel experience. We select activities, hotels, and products based on factors like child-friendliness, value for money, safety, accessibility for strollers, and overall family experience quality.
We regularly feature attractions and products that do not have any affiliate program attached. If an activity or product is great for families, we include it whether or not we earn a commission from it. Conversely, we will never recommend something we do not believe in simply because it offers a higher commission rate. Our readers' trust is more valuable than any individual affiliate payout.
FTC Compliance
This disclosure is provided in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's guidelines on endorsements and testimonials (16 CFR Part 255). The FTC requires that websites clearly and conspicuously disclose any material connections between content publishers and the companies whose products or services they recommend. We are committed to full transparency and honest recommendations, and we have placed affiliate disclaimers on all pages where affiliate links appear, in addition to this standalone disclosure page.
